Your Why vs Your Worries
When faced with challenges, it’s easy to let the obstacles and worries take over. But what happens when we shift the focus to our 'why'?
Give this exercise a try…
STEP 1. Think of a goal your currently have (big or small)
For example,
to feel confident giving a presentation to my team next week
to get that promotion in January
STEP 2. Draw 2 Circles
Grab a pen and paper and draw two circles. In the first circle, write down your worries - everything that’s holding you back or making you hesitate. In the second circle, write down your why - the reason you want to achieve your goal. Think of the bigger picture that fuels your motivation.
Step 3: Reflect
Look at both circles. Which one feels more powerful? Which one feels heavier? Often, when we get our worries out of our head and onto paper, they don’t feel as overwhelming. Writing your why helps to remember what actually matters.
Step 3: Action
Now, draw an arrow from the circle with your worries to the circle with your why. This arrow represents the small actions you can take to bridge the gap. What’s one thing you can do this week that will move you closer to your goal, despite your worries?
This exercise is designed to help you experience what happens when your why is bigger than your worries, and to see that even small steps can lead to big progress.
Don’t worry if this feels less than simple. Anything new can feel difficult at first.
